Planning for the Season of Advent

Advent Offerings for Adults

Always beginning four Sundays prior to Christmas Day, Advent is the season that ushers in a new Church Year. As is often the case for new beginnings or beginning again, this reflective time in the rhythm of the seasons of our church affords us yet another opportunity for contemplative study on how and why God chose to come to us in the flesh and as a baby. These Adult Christian Education and Formation offerings invite you into a more meaningful experience of Advent.

Advent Quiet Morning
Led by the Reverend Dr. Kathleen Price
Saturday, December 6 from 9:30 a.m. to Noon

Dr. Kathie Price, using images of the interpretations of various artists, will guide us through an interactive, then reflective exploration of the Infancy Narrative. She strives to make the pursuit of biblical knowledge exciting, fun, and vivid by weaving together God’s Word with the interpretation of the story by various artists including Rembrandt, Georges de la Tour, Josefa de Obidos, Vincent van Gogh, and Henry Ossawa Tanner.

Conversations in Advent
Led by the Reverend Mary Jayne Ledgerwood
Mondays, December 1, 8, and 15 from 10:30 a.m. to Noon

What does Advent mean, and how can we experience a more meaningful Advent? With scripture, poetry, and prayer as tools, Mary Jayne will guide and engage us in a series of theological conversations designed to deepen our own understanding of our individual and communal Advent journeys. No homework, no advance preparation necessary! Just bring an open heart and mind.
