Lent: Always We Begin Again

Named for a former rector, The Alfred St. John Matthews Lenten Series is one of our Christian formation highlights for the entire program year. The 2012 series takes us back to the foundation of the Lenten basics and is called Always We Begin Again, named for the book of the same title written by John McQuiston, our kick-off Adult Forum speaker. During this five-week special series from Sunday, February 26 to Wednesday, March 28, parishioners can participate on Sunday mornings and twice on Wednesdays, once at Noon and again in the evening, in different, creative offerings to deepen their Lenten experience.

Sunday Adult Forums will feature Always We Begin Again series speakers during Lent. Participants of the Lenten Bible study on Wednesdays will experience a deep Lenten journey by focusing on the upcoming Sunday lectionary with our special seasonal prayers and liturgy. All are welcome, including those who have never attended, are curious, or just want to try it! Remember to bring a brown-bag lunch.

On Wednesday evenings, children, families, and adults will share a simple Lenten supper together beginning at 6:00 p.m. in Shears Hall, followed by programs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for both children and their parents together and for adults. For adults, facilitators will lead programs on topics from Practicing Our Faith by Dorothy Bass. For children and their parents together, a complementary program will be offered on the same themes. Details will be available soon. As is our tradition, if you would like to help with the Lenten meals by preparing soup, salad, and/or bread for any of the parish Lenten suppers, please see the sign-up sheet in Shears Hall. We are also introducing this year a special children’s Lenten menu!
